WHY:
Similar to North Port, Harbour Heights hosts populations of the Florida Scrub-jay and the Gopher Tortoise; both are listed as a threatened species and both are rapidly losing habitat as our area's human population continues to grow.
Contiguous parcels of conservation land are helpful to all species in areas of development as they help to
provide corridors for wildlife to move about, live, feed and raise their young in safety.
Conservation of undeveloped land parcels (greenspace) in our neighborhoods also maintains scenic landscape for people; helps reduce flooding; helps filter water/improve water quality; maintains the native tree canopy and vegetation that serve as filters for our air; and increases property values.
We truly are in a race against development.
Acquisition of neighborhood land for conservation is truly a collective effort - please join us today!
